Did you know that our mother decided she wanted to be a teacher when she was in the third grade? Our mom was always very inquisitive! Her third grade teacher got tired of her endless questioning and began ignoring her upraised hand some of the time. One day, the teacher was introducing the concept of gravity to the class. Mama innocently asked if the people on the other side of the world were upside down. (What young child has not asked this question?!) The teacher got upset and answered with something foolish like, "No! Up is up!" Little Jeannie was NOT satisfied with this answer, so her inquiry continued. "But what if you were standing in outer space on another planet looking at the earth? Wouldn't some people look like they were standing upside down and some look like they were standing sideways?" "NO! UP IS UP!" The teacher got so angry with little Jeannie that she made our mother cry. Mama decided that very day that she would grow up and become a teacher...and she would answer ALL the little children who asked questions like she did! You go, Mama!
