On December 24, 1929, Marian and Marshall Ellis received the best Christmas present ever — the birth of their new baby girl, whom they would name Wilma Jean Ellis. She was born in her parents’ bedroom in the very same farmhouse Marshall was born in 25 years before! Jean Ellis was the second of 5 girls, who grew up helping their daddy run the farm as well as any boys could. Jean was always reading books about faraway places, and she was fascinated by people who were different from her.
