WHAT IS LEFT TO SAY???
As Alma and I enter the third hour of our fourth session of attempting to find something unique to say about Jeannie Graetz, we find that we are stymied. The accolades, observations, and love that are continuously expressed, in all quarters, about Jeanne and that husband of hers, are as bountiful as all the worthwhile things in this world. The following are just a fraction.
About MOTHERHOOD....You raised a large family under all sorts of challenging physical and social difficulties. Yet, you persevered and got it done. Meanwhile, you continue to represent the “mother” of all the causes in which you and your husband have been, and continue to be involved.
About INVOLVEMENT.....You have worked without end to always become involved in matters that work toward the betterment of humankind, both for the individual, wider community, national, and international betterment of all people.
About BRAVERY.....With head held high and steadfast devotion to your husband, children, and your love of and trust in God; you faced up to the ugliness of ostracism, racial hatred, threatening phone calls, physical threats, and implementation of those threats by way of the bombs of cowards, to continue God’s work as a wife, mother, freedom fighter, and one brave soul!
About TENACITY .....Considering the years with which you have been blessed, and considering the extraordinary life you have lived, and are living, you have chosen to not rest on your laurels. Your determination to resume your education, and achieve one of your long-postponed goals, should serve as an inspiration to
anyone who thinks: “I have always wanted to__________________________. ”
About APPRECIATION ..... I often observe the “rock –star” adulation expressed by students as they see you and your husband stroll, hand in hand, about the city, and on the Alabama State University Campus. The first student spotting you will alert the others: “Here come the Graetz!!!” Whatever their conversation or activity, it ceases as all turn, with love, to admire and appreciate the two of you.
What more can we say, except, WE LOVE YOU!!! Edmond and Alma Collier
