Jeannie, Bob, and Carolyn (their only child still at home) moved to their new home at “The Promised Land,” their rustic, mountain home in Vinton County, Ohio. In the early years, there was no electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing, and Jeannie was often home alone -- holding down the fort while Bob was working in the city and Carolyn was off at High School. But Jean was used to hard work, and she relished living in the gorgeous woods of their mountain.
Jeannie became very active in her new community. In her years in Vinton county, she was a board member and Vice President of the Tri-County Mental Health and Counseling Service, coordinator of the county’s Red Cross bloodmobiles for more than 20 years, secretary for the Central Ohio Red Cross Blood Services Advisory Board and for the Regional Blood Services Board, secretary of the Scioto Conference Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and speaker and leader for the Vinton County AIDS Task Force.
After all of their children were grown, Jeannie and Bob fostered a young single mom and her two kids for a few years.
