Jeannie, CONGRATULATIONS!
I met you when traveling to Alabama on a civil rights trip with Mark Swiggum in April of this year. I heard you tell them that you were working on your degree to be a reading teacher. I was so impressed. At age 68, I just retired as a literacy specialist in an elementary school but continue to volunteer at the school for about 8 hours each week teaching second graders who struggle with reading because it is so essential that everyone knows how to read. In addition to skills I try hard to instill a love for literature. I am aware of the need for reading teachers. With your lifetime of experiences and a warm personality, you bring so much to these children in addition to just the mechanics of reading. You are an inspiration to all of us!
