thengani - the shortish, the dwarfish

hotaa - become, be

baalyaa-vina - without (passing through) childhood

But do not leave the shortish humility. It is not possible to become elder, without (passing through) childhood.

anu mhane varna taambusa saavala | sadguru-chi lila agaadha-chi ||8||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane - says

varna - color

taambusa - reddish

saavala - dark, black, purple

sadguru-chi - of the sadguru

lila - leela, sport

agaadha-chi - is really unfathomable, is really boundless.

Dasganu says (his assumed) color is dark reddish. The leela (sport) of the Sadguru is really unfathomable.

(Sai baba has assumed a handsome tall bodily stature, yet has assumed a somewhat lowly dark reddish color. This is to deliver the message to devotees that one should relish the highest spiritual knowledge, yet not get infatuated by pride of that knowledge, which could result in looking down on fellow creatures)

sadguru-raayaa-ne jalaa tel kele | dip ujalile lakshaa-vadhi ||

lakshaa-vadhi - lakhs of, in lakhs (of numbers)

The sadguru king, made water as oil. He lit lamps in lakhs

thevuniyaa dip ushyaa-paayathyaa-shi | pahude fali-si gurumurti ||

thevuniyaa - keeping, placing

dip - lamps

ushyaa-paayathyaa-shi - near the head & feet, near the pillow & the bottom

pahude - sleeps

fali-si - on the wooden plank

gurumurti - the guru's form

Placing lamps near the head & feet, sleeps on the wooden plank, the guru's form.

tyaanchyaa tya kruti-cha haach aahe artha | kadaa andhaaraata niju naye ||

Of his that action, this itself is the meaning. That one must not sleep in darkness, ever

ganu mhane maayaa durdhar andhaar | dyana-dip thor mhanuni laavaa ||9||

maayaa - Maya , illusive power of the Lord which creates many out of one & causes people to relish in the plurality, forgetting their real nature.

laavaa - light

Dasganu says, Maya is deep darkness, the great knowledge lamp, hence light it.

sadguru-raayaa-chya - of the Sadguru king

paayaachi - of the feet

ji - the one, that which is

dhul - dust

tech - that itself

ganga-jal - Ganga water

shuddha - pure

maanaa - assume, consider

That dust which is of the feet of the Sadguru king, that itself, consider as the pure Ganga water.

parmaarthaa-chi - of spiritualism, of highest end (as opposed to temporary well-being)

manaa-hun - with mind and heart

tyaane - he

charan - feet

pahaave - should see

aadhi - first, before

One who has a longing of spiritualism (highest end of mankind), with mind and heart, he should see these feet (of Sai baba) first.

aihik sukhaa-shi devoniyaa faataa | bhakti-chyaa tyaa vaataa dhundaalaa-vyaa ||

aihik - temporal, mundane, of this world

sukhaa-shi - unto happiness

devoniyaa - having given, giving

faataa - distance, separation, dismiss

bhakti-chyaa - of devotion

tyaa - those

vaataa - paths

dhundaalaa-vyaa - should search in detail

Unto temporal happiness (of this world), giving a distance, those paths of devotion, one should search in detail.

dveshaa-che - of hate, of malice

saraate - thorny shrub, wooden splinter (that pierces one's flesh)

sai-may - sai filled

pahaave - observe, look, behold

jagaa-laagi - at the world

The thorny shrub of hate, one should throw away and Sai-filled (is how), one should observe at the world.

ganu mhane tari tumhi tyaanche bhakta | shobhaal jagaat sajjan-anno ||11||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane - says

tari - then

tumhi - you all

tyaanche - his (Sai baba's)

bhakta - devotees

shobhaal - will befit

jagaat - in the world

sajjan-anno - O good virtuous people

Dasganu says, then you all will befit as his devotees in the world, O good virtuous people.

parmaarthaa-cha - of spritualism

Shirdi is not a holy place (but verily) a week day bazaar. Therein is the shopkeeper of spiritualism (Sai Baba).

aihik sukhaa-chi khelani bahulyaa | samul fekilyaa guru-raye ||

aihik - temporal, mundane, of this world

sukhaa-chi - of happiness

khelani - toys

bahulyaa - dolls

samul - entirely

fekilyaa - thrown away

guru-raye - the kingly Guru

The toys and dolls of temporal happiness, the kingly Guru has thrown away entirely.

kaa ki tayaa-maji kimapi naa artha | fasatil vyartha pore maazhi ||

kaa ki - so that, because

tayaa-maji - in that, in those

kimapi - in the least, even a little bit

fasatil - will get deluded , will get trapped

vyartha - in vain, unnecessarily

pore - children

maazhi - my

because, in those (toys & dolls), there is not the least sense. My children will get deluded unnecessarily.

ganu mhane por panchabyaa-si jaate | kirkire-cha ghete aavadine ||12||

por - the child

panchabyaa si - to the week-day bazaar

jaate - goes

kirkire-cha - spinning toy itself (Whirligig, A toy which has a fan which spins by wind)

ghete - takes, picks

aavadine - with delight

Dasganu says, the child goes to the week-day bazaar and picks the spinning toy itself, with delight.

Karma, Bhakti, Knowledge are the goods in this bazaar. Whatever is desired in mind, one should take that itself.

tighaan-chi kimmat ek aahe jaanaa | fal-hi tighaan-naa ek-chi ho ||

tighaan-chi - of all the three

kimmat - cost, price

ek - one, same

aahe - is

jaanaa - know this

fal-hi - the fruit also, reward also, outcome also

tighaan-naa - for the three

ek-chi ho - one itself really

The cost of all the three (Karma, Bhakti, Knowledge) is same, know this. The fruit also for the three, is one itself really.

The wealth in the form of real feeling (devotion) is required for (purchasing) that. For Sai sadguru, anything other than this, is not required.

bhaav-naane - the coin in the form of real feeling (devotion)

Dasganu says, the coin in the form of real feeling (devotion), is present with whom, he should go to the bazaar here (at Shirdi).

That fruit (of Karma, bhakti, knowledge purchased in the Shirdi bazaar) is the food item for journey, which one should take for refreshment and then should go to Pandharpur happily.

babaji-ne krupa tukobaa-si keli | tayi-cha falali pandhari tya ||

babaji-ne - Babaji , Saint Tukaram's Guru

krupa - grace

tukobaa-si - unto Saint Tukaram

keli - did, cast, gave

tayi-cha - by that itself

falali - fructified, resulted, did fructify

pandhari - Pandharpur

tya - for him, to him

Babaji cast his grace unto saint Tukaram. By that itself did Pandharpur fructify for him.

devaa-pudhe - in front of God

(The potter) Saint Gora Kumbhar, by hitting his wooden pottery tool to Saint Namdev, proved him as unripe in front of God.

ganu mhane mag khechar maauli | naamyaa-ne vandili kalyaan-aartha ||14||

maauli - mother, motherly

naamyaa-ne - Saint Namdev

vandili - worshipped, did worship

kalyaan-aartha - for welfare, for well-being

Dasganu says, then, the motherly saint Visoba Khechar, did Saint Namdev worship for his well-being.

(Saint Namdev was a great devotee of Lord Vitthal of Pandharpur. He ate with him, slept with him, talked with him. However he had not got enlightment, since he did not have a Guru. Lord Vitthal decided to clear this drawback of his Namdev.

Once the great potter saint Gora Kumbhar invited all saints to his house for food. At that time, at the suggestion of Saint Jnaneshwar, he hit all the saints on their head with his pottery tool. Nobody complained, but Namdev did express his anguish and asked why he was hit for no reason. He went to his Lord Vitthal to complain. Lord Vitthal knew that the feeling of ego in Namdev caused him to complain & therefore he directed him to the saint Visoba Khechar, who became his Guru. Needless to say, Namdev got enlightment on receiving his Guru's grace. The purport of this story is that knowledge of God & enlightment can only be had by the grace of the Guru.)

Without Guru's grace, even one (person) in the world, has not got Lord Vithu Chakrapani (i.e. Lord Vishnu)
