jayaa-chi ti rupe sagun nirgun | aisaa narayana vandu aadhi ||

jayaa-chi - one whose

ti - those

rupe - forms, manifestations

sagun - with form

nirgun - without form, formless

aisaa - such a

narayana - narayana (God)

vandu - let us worship

aadhi - in the beginning, before

One whose those manifestations are (both) with form & formless, such a Narayana (Lord), let us worship in the beginning.

sagun sevita nirgun ye haati | nirgunaa-chi prapti aarambhi naa ||

sagun - (god) with form

sevita - on serving

nirgun - formless (god)

ye - comes

haati - in hand

nirgunaa-chi - of the formless (god)

prapti - attainment

aarambhi - at the start, in the beginning

naa - not

On serving the god with form, the formless god comes in hand. The attainment of the formless god is not (directly) in the beginning.

aadhi mul kaadhi ka, kha, baaraakhadi | mag shabda jodi jhaalyaa dynaan ||

aadhi - first

mul - the child

kaadhi - draws, writes

ka - the first alphabet in devnagari script, analogus to A in english alphabets

kha - the second alphabet in devnagari script, analogus to B in english alphabets

baaraakhadi - collection of 12 basic alphabets in devnagari script (a, aa, e, E, u, U etc.) All other alphabets can be tweaked as per these alphabets.

mag - then

shabda - words

jodi - joins, forms

jhaalyaa - on having, on getting

dynaan - knowledge, understanding

First the child draws A, B, C, D etc. alphabets. Then he joins words on getting understanding.

ganu mhane taisi sagunopasana | baaraakhadi jaanaa adhyatmaa-chi ||1||

ganu - dasganu

mhane - says

taisi - like that

sagunopasana - worship of god with form

baaraakhadi - alphabet collection

jaanaa - know

adhyatmaa-chi - of spiritualism

Dasganu says, worship of God with form is like that. Know that, it is the collection of alphabets of spiritualism.

ti hi baaraakhadi shikavi jo guru | bhavaabdhi-che taaru toch jaanaa ||

ti - that

hi - this

baaraakhadi - alphabet collection

shikavi - teaches

jo - one who

guru - guru, spiritual master

bhavaabdhi-che - of the ocean of worldly existence

taaru - boat

toch - he alone, he only

jaanaa - know

That this alphabet collection, the Guru who teaches, know that he only is the boat of the ocean of worldly existence.

guruseva hich prathama paayari | ase tikanya bhaari avaghad ||

guruseva - devotional service unto the guru

hich - this alone

prathama - first

paayari - step

ase - is

tikanya - to survive

bhaari - very

avaghad - difficult

Devotional service unto the Guru, this alone is the first step and is very difficult to survive.

sadguru-raayaa-chi krupa sampaadita | sevechi purtataa sahaj hoi ||

sadguru-raayaa-chi - of the dear Sadguru

krupa - grace

sampaadita - on earning, on getting

sevechi - of devotional service

purtataa - completion, fulfillment

sahaj - easily

hoi - happens

On earning the grace of dear sadguru, the fulfillment of devotional service easily happens.

ganu mhane kelya prasanna savita | prabhe-chi nyunataa kevi pade ||2||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane - says

kelya - on doing, on making

prasanna - happy, pleased

savita - sun god

prabhe-chi - of light

nyunataa - deficiency, want

kevi - how

pade - does fall, does occur

Dasganu says, on making the sun god pleased, how does deficiency of light occur

sadguru-chi seva bahutaani keli | aisi saaksha didhali puraanaan-ni ||

sadguru-chi - of sadguru

seva - devotional service

bahutaani - so many have

keli - did, done

aisi - like this, such a

saaksha - proof, witness

didhali - has been given

puraanaan-ni - by the Puranas

The devotional service of the Sadguru, so many have done. Such a witness, has been given by the Puranas.

purna-brahma ram jaanaki-cha kaant | jhaala sharanaagat vasishthaan-si ||

purna-brahma - full brahman, complete Brahman incarnation

ram - Lord Rama

jaanaki-cha - of Janaki (Sita)

kaant - husband

jhaala - became

sharanaagat - surrendered

vasishthaan-si - unto Sage Vasistha

The full Brahman incarnation, Lord Rama, the husband of Janaki (Sita), became surrendered unto Sage Vasistha.

rukmini-vallabhe kela saandipani | aapanaa-laaguni gururaya ||

rukmini-vallabhe - the lover of Rukmini (Lord Krishna)

kela - made, did

saandipani - Sage Sandipani

aapanaa-laaguni - for himself

gururaya - dear guru

The Lover of Rukmini (Lord Krishna), made Sandipani, as the dear guru for himself.

ganu mhane guru-vaachuniyaa nar | tochi jaanaa khar do paayaan-cha ||3||

ganu - dasganu

mhane - says

guru - guru

vaachuniyaa - without

nar - human being

tochi - he is verily

jaanaa - know that

khar - donkey

do - two

paayaan-cha - of legs

Dasganu says, a human being without a Guru, know that, he is verily a donkey of two legs.

nishthaavant bhaava haachi deto fala | abhakti-cha mala nimaaliya ||

nishthaavant - having complete faith, of complete faith

bhaava - real feeling, earnest feeling

haachi - this itself

deto - gives

fala - fruit, reward

abhakti-cha - of non-devotion, of lack of devotion

mala - dirt

nimaaliya - on having been ended, on having been cleared

The real feeling of complete faith, this itself, gives the reward, the dirt of non-devotion on having been cleared.

chahaad dutondya aisa naarad muni | pari jhaalaa tarani prahladaa-te ||

chahaad - vilifier, one who sets quarrels by reporting tales of one another

dutondya - double speaker, one who speaks in favor of both sides under different circumstances.

aisa - such

naarad - Narada

muni - sage

pari - but, yet

jhaalaa - became

tarani - boat, rescuer, uplifter

prahladaa-te - for Prahlad

A vilifier, a double speaker, such is the sage Narada, but he became the uplifter for Prahlad

Sage Narada gave instructions in devotional service to the mother of the great devotee Prahlad Maharaj. At this time Prahlad maharaj was still in his mother's womb, yet he received those instructions & after taking birth became a greatest devotee of the Lord. This is inspite of the fact that Prahlad Maharaj was born in the family of Asuras (demons), who by thier very nature possess demonical qualities.

gopichand-e guru lidi-si gaadila | pudhe tochi jhaalaa vandya tyaate ||

gopichand-e - king Gopichand, a king of ancient india

guru - guru

lidi-si - in horse dung

gaadila - buried

pudhe - later

tochi - he himself

jhaalaa - became

vandya - worshipable

tyaate - for him, unto him

King Gopichand buried his guru in horse dung. (However) later he himself became worshipable for him.

ganu mhane sone cadhe molaa ange | kasoti-chya sange jagaa-maaji ||4||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane - says

sone - gold

cadhe - gains, holds, climbs

molaa - value

ange - body

kasoti-chya - of test, of standard

sange - with association, in association

jagaa-maaji - in the world

Dasganu says gold gains body value (only) in association of test, in the world.

shamaa, shanti, dayaa ase jayaa thaayi | taise dyaana paahi sampurna te ||

kshamaa - forgiveness

shanti - peace

dayaa - compassion

ase - exists

jayaa – where, at which

thaayi - place

taise – like that

dyaana - knowledge

paahi – look out for

sampurna – complete, completely perfect

te – that is, which is

Forgiveness, Peace, Compassion exist at which place, look out for a knowledge like that, which is completely perfect

jayaa-chi-ye shiri ishwaraa-cha haat | toch sadguru-naath karaavaa ho ||

jayaa-chi-ye – one whose

shiri – on head

ishwaraa-cha – of god

haat – hand, palm

toch – that alone

sadguru-naath – sadguru nath

karaavaa – one should make

ho – O

One on whose head, is the hand of god, O, one should make that alone sadguru-nath

baaherila songaa bhulu nakaa kadaa | patangaate dagaa dipaa-pashi ||

baaherila - outward

songaa – by pretention

bhulu – get deluded, get fooled

nakaa – do not

kadaa - ever

patangaate – for the kite-fly, for the moth (insect)

dagaa - cheating, fraud, deceit

dipaa-pashi – near the lamp (of light)

Do not ever get deluded by outward pretention. For the kite-fly (insect) there is cheating near the lamp.

ganu mhane haunsa paanyaate takuni | ghetase shodhoni jaise dudh ||5||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane – says

haunsa – the swan

paanyaate – the water

takuni – leaving aside, filtering out

ghetase – does take

shodhoni – by searching, by filtering

jaise – just as

dudh – milk

Dasganu says just as the swan, leaving aside the water, does take by searching, (only) the milk.

(The swan has got the ability to separate milk from water, with it's beak)

mumukshu paarakhi chaarvaak kombada | kukkutaa ukirdaa god vaate ||

mumukshu – Mumukshu, a person desiring liberation

paarakhi – the clever judger, one who arrives at proper judgement after clever examination

chaarvaak - irreligious person, atheist

kombada - hen cock

kukkutaa - the hen cock

ukirdaa - dirt, dunghill, garbage-heap

god – sweet, lovely

vaate- feels

The Mumukshu is the clever judger (whereas) the irreligious person is the hen cock. The hen cock feels the garbage heap as sweet

(the irreligious person even after coming near the diamond (Sai baba) fails to recognise his worth & considers him as an ordinary stone. His liking is towards garbage i.e. wordly indulgences. The Mumukshu makes the most of this diamond)

ganu mhane jo kaa ase bhagya-vant | tayaa-chaach het gurupaayi ||6||

ganu - Dasganu

mhane - says

jo – who

kaa - one

ase -is

bhagya-vant - fortunate

tayaa-chaach – his alone, only his

het - desire, wish, liking

gurupaayi – at Guru’s feet

Dasganu says, one who is fortunate, only his liking is at the Guru’s feet.

kshamaa-shaanti-yukta bhavaabdhi-che jahaaj | aisa sadguru-raaj shirdi-maaji ||

kshamaa - forgiveness

shaanti - peace

yukta - filled with, endowed with

bhavaabdhi-che - of the ocean of wordly existence

jahaaj - boat, ship

aisa - like this, such a

sadguru-raaj - king of sadgurus

shirdi - shirdi

maaji - in

One who is endowed with forgiveness and peace, one who is the boat of the ocean of worldly existence, such a king of sadgurus is (present) in Shirdi.

naamaabhi-dhaa jayaa-chi shobhe baba sai | anaathaan-chi maai tich jaanaa ||

naamaabhi-dhaa - name

jayaa-chi - one whose

shobhe - befits, looks good

baba - baba

sai - sai

anaathaan-chi - of the orphans, of the helpless

maai - mother

tich - she only, she itself, she herself

jaanaa - know

One whose name, befits as baba Sai. The mother of the helpless, she is herself, know (this).

anaath sanaath haa na bhed jethe | surya-prakaasha-te nivad kaichi ||

anaath - orphan, helpless

sanaath - non orphan, not helpless

haa - this, such a

na - no, not

bhed - distinction, discrimination

jethe - where, wherein

surya-prakaasha-te - for the sun light, for the rays of the sun

nivad - discrimination

kaichi - which, where does

Helpless & not helpless, this discrimination, wherein there is not. For the sunlight, where does discrimination (exist).

maajha guru-raaj jaanhavi-che jal | ganu arpi bhaal tayaa paayi ||7||

maajha - my, mine

guru-raaj - king of gurus, Guru-king

jaanhavi-che - of Ganga

jal - water

ganu - Dasganu

arpi - offers

bhaal - forehead

tayaa - his

paayi - unto feet

My Guru-king (Sai baba) is the water of Ganga. Dasganu offers forehead unto his feet.

angaa-kaathi uncha kelise dhaarana | kalvaa-vayaa khun bhakta-janaa ||

angaa-kaathi - bodily stature

uncha - tall, high

kelise - has done

dhaarana - assuming, holding, keeping

kalvaa-vayaa - in order to tell, in order to make known

khun - hint, secret

bhakta-janaa - to the devotee people

Sai baba has done the assuming of a tall bodily stature in order to tell the hint to the devotee people.

uccha dynan je kaa adhyaatma saajire | techi sevaa saare kalyanaartha ||

uccha - high, higher

dynan - knowledge

je - that

kaa - which

adhyaatma - spiritualism

saajire - nice, good, pretty

techi - that itself

sevaa - consume, ultilise

saare - all of (you)

kalyanaartha - for well-being

That which is the higher knowledge, i.e. the nice spiritualism, that itself, all of you consume for well-being.
