The Doctor is Back: Tips on Protecting Yourself in the Clinic
A. Regarding Doctors
1. Recommended PPEs in the clinic
a. Mask – surgical mask is minimum, N95 or similar mask is ideal
b. Goggles or face shield
c. Gloves
d. Isolation gown
2. Wear closed shoes; shoe covers or booties not necessary.
3. Change gloves and gown, wash hands every after handling a patient.
B. Regarding Physical Set up
1. Air conditioners may be used but be sure to open a window/door or turn on exhaust fan.
2. Do not use electric fans.
3. HEPA filter NOT necessary, install only if there are no windows or exhaust fan like in mall-based clinics.
4. Plastic, acrylic or glass barriers may provide additional protection, but can interfere with physical assessment of the patient. It also adds to the area that may be contaminated and should be disinfected.
5. Maintain at least 3 feet distance from the patient.
6. Clean the entire room at the end of the clinic hours, wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant.
7. May use UVC lamps for terminal cleaning.
C. Regarding Patient and Companions
1. Whenever possible, do telemedicine.
2. Schedule patients.
3. Limit companions.
4. No mask, no entry.
5. Take temperature.
6. Sanitize hands of patient and companion upon entering the clinic.
D. Regarding Secretary and Clinic Staff
1. Decrease number of staff to minimum, 1-2 only.
2. Provide similar PPEs for them.
3. Minimize handling of money thru contactless payment transactions (card tap, Gcash, Paymaya, Paypal, bank transfer).
Though still not final, most likely it will be the scenario until COVID19 disappears.
Although the audience for the lecture are pediatricians and OB-GYN, applicable to all physicians.

FACE-TO-FACE CONSULTATION ONLY AS NEEDED.
STILL RISKY FOR COVID19 INFECTIONS FOR PHYSICIANS, SECRETARIES AND PATIENTS ALIKE.
BIG HASSLE FOR PATIENTS ALIKE AS THERE WILL PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF PATIENTS AND RELATIVES FOR COVID19 AT THE ENTRANCE, WAITING TIME TO DISINFECT CLINIC AFTER EACH PATIENT USE, ETC.
BIG HASSLE FOR THE PHYSICIANS AS THERE WILL BE A LOT OF PPE THAT HAVE TO BE WORN AND CHANGED BETWEEN PATIENTS. ELECTRONIC CHARTING, ETC.
MORE EXPENSIVE FOR PATIENTS AS PPE ARE BEING USED BY PHYSICIANS AND ALSO PATIENTS AND RELATIVES AND ARE CHARGED
