Concern: for removal of tube drain after modified radical mastectomy
JJ underwent modified radical mastectomy on March 13, 2020 at the Philippine General Hospital. She has a tube drain which has to be drained one week after the operation. Because of the difficulty in traveling because of the community quarantine, I instructed her husband on how to remove the tube drain at home.
This is how the tube at the anchor site looks like.
The anchoring stitch will have to be cut to release the anchorage.
The the tube manually pull out.
I asked them to prepare the necessary instrument and supplies. These were what they have at home.
Instructions to the husband:
Sterilize the scissor.
Prep the tube drain wound with antiseptic.
Cut the anchoring suture.
Pull out the tube.
Check for bleeding in the exit wound and then apply pressure.
Place temporary dressing.
After removal of the tube drain.
