The obits

The "obits"
I saw this on a UNIX server. I couldn’t resist posting it. Kind of like the Beatles and their "A Day in the Life" song from 1967.
I traced the quote back to good old Pete Seeger, whose 1948 book "How to play the 5 String Banjo" taught me many decades ago how to play different styles of the five-string banjo in addition to the bluegrass style I had thought I already knew.
_ _ _ _ _
I get up each morning, gather my wits.
Pick up the paper, read the obits.
If I’m not there I know I’m not dead.
So I eat a good breakfast and go back to bed.
Oh, how do I know my youth is all spent?
My get-up-and-go has got-up-and-went.
But in spite of it all, I’m able to grin,
And think of the places my get-up has been.
