The reason why I started coming to this ELT study group is because I read Professor Sato’s essay and I agree 100% with what he says in his essay. Therefore the topics I want to talk about in this presentation should be closely related to what he stresses in his philosophy.

I want to share with you how important these three elements are when I design my class and the way I incorporate them into my class activities. Also it would be beneficial for all of us if we can share our opinions and ideas about these topics.

Features of Practices Supporting English Education in Finland: An Analysis of Primary and Lower Secondary School English Textbooks

English education in Finland is widely regarded as relatively successful. One of the factors contributing to this success is said to be the high quality and large quantity of its English textbooks, in particularly its' abundant practices. These practices include a wide range of vocabulary- and grammar-related practice types. While output-oriented language activities play a central role in Japan, Finland places greater emphasis on practices that strengthen learners’ intake before engaging in such activities. This presentation examines the characteristics and organization of these practices in Finnish primary and lower secondary English textbooks.
