NMR Instrument Room Safety and Hygiene Guidelines:

Ø Medical Implant Safety:

Individuals wearing pacemakers or metal heart valves are strictly prohibited from entering the NMR instrument room.

Those with internal metal substitutes such as stents, prosthetics, and joints should keep a safe distance from the magnet to ensure life safety.


Ø Magnetic Field Safety:

Avoid bringing ferromagnetic objects and tools near the magnet to prevent quenching and damage to the superconducting magnet.

Items like mobile phones, credit cards, cameras, and wristwatches should be kept away from the magnet to avoid damage.

Remember: Superconducting magnets maintain an endless magnetic force at all times (in the charged state).


Ø Safety with Cryogenic Liquids:

In the event of quenching, a large amount of low-temperature liquid helium at 4.2K (-269°C) and liquid nitrogen at 77K (-196°C) will disperse as gas. Personnel inside should promptly leave the instrument room to avoid asphyxiation and ensure life safety.


Note: Do not shake the NMR magnet, and avoid touching it arbitrarily.


Ø NMR Tube Safety:

NMR tubes have thin walls. When inserting into the rotor, hold the middle part of the NMR tube with your fingers and rotate the tube while inserting it into the rotor (the rotor remains stationary) to prevent injuries caused by tube breakage.

If an NMR tube breaks inside the probe, notify the lab manager immediately.


Ø Computer Maintenance Safety:

Unauthorized use of USB drives is not allowed. Do not log out of shared accounts (Default User) without permission to prevent data transmission and storage failures.


Ø Data Maintenance Safety:

Deliberately terminating another person's experiment during their scheduled time or inserting your own sample to continue the experiment after testing your sample is strictly prohibited.

(This situation will be investigated using computer account login records and surveillance footage in case of experiment abnormalities.)


Ø Instrument Maintenance Safety:

Inform the lab manager and fill out the variable temperature experiment logbook before conducting high or low-temperature experiments  

   for the first time.


Avoid hasty actions; if unsure or unfamiliar with an experiment on a specific instrument, consult the manager. Basic usage manuals are 

  available near the instrument. Refer to them if you haven't used the instrument for a while.


NMR instruments and their components are expensive; use them with care.


Encourage learning, but do not attempt trial and error. Managers welcome questions and discussions; do not attempt experiments without 

   guidance.


After each use, be sure to fill out the logbook for reference and contact purposes.

Ø  醫療植體安全

配戴心率調整器、金屬心臟瓣膜者絕對禁止進入NMR儀器室

體內植有金屬替代品如支架、義肢及關節等注意遠離磁鐵以維護生命的安全

 

Ø  磁場安全

具鐵磁性物件及工具勿靠近磁體,以免超導磁鐵發生淬磁而毀損

手機、信用卡、相機及指針式手錶等,勿靠近磁鐵以免被損壞

 

鐵磁性物件及工具如: 鋼瓶、鐵呎、鐵捲呎、磁鐵、磁石、迴紋針、燕尾夾、螺絲、髮夾、鐵釘、板手、鐵鎚、輪子、推車、剪刀、吸塵器、鐵椅(鐵腳)、起子、刀片、手電筒等等

永遠記住:超導磁體隨時維持磁力無邊(充磁狀態)

Ø  超低溫液體安全

NMR儀器若發生淬磁情況,磁體中大量的低溫液氦4.2K(-269℃)及液氮77K(-196℃)會以氣體散逸出來,室內人員需迅速即刻離開儀器室以免窒息及維護生命的安全

 

注意:NMR磁體忌搖晃,不得隨意觸碰磁體

Ø  NMR試管安全

NMR試管其壁薄,套入轉子時,以手指握NMR管子的中段處,邊旋試管邊塞入轉子(轉子不動),以避免試管因破裂刺入手中而受傷

 

NMR試管破裂於儀器探頭內時,務必通知管理人員

 

Ø  電腦維護安全

未經同意不得使用隨身碟,不得任意登出共用帳戶 (Default User),以免網路數據傳輸及硬碟儲存失效

 

Ø  數據維護安全

嚴禁在不屬於自己的時段,刻意終止他人實驗的進行,置入自己樣品測試後,再置入原樣品偽裝繼續實驗的行為。

 (此情況將於實驗異常時,以電腦帳號登入事件檢視時程及調閱監視錄影帶作比對處置)

 

Ø  儀器維護安全

首次進行高溫或低溫實驗需告知管理人員及填寫變溫實驗登記簿

 

忌急忙,不清楚或沒在該儀器操作過的實驗可先找管理者,儀器旁有基本使用手冊,一陣子沒做又不熟需要參考複習

 

NMR儀器及其任何零件都非常昂貴,需謹慎小心使用

 

鼓勵學習但切勿嘗試錯誤,管理者歡迎提問與討論,千萬別自己試(自己認賠)

 

每次使用完畢,務必填寫登記簿,以利判斷及聯絡
