1987 Atlanta Journal 500
Network: ESPN
Date and time: November 22, 1987, 12:30 PM
Format: Live
Length: 4 hours
The race was televised live and flag-to-flag on ESPN. Three in-car cameras were used, in the cars of Rick Wilson, Michael Waltrip, and Cale Yarborough.
One unique feature of the broadcast was that at times, the viewers were able to hear the producer/directors as they gave commands to the announcers and camera crew. They also had a camera in the control room, allowing a "behind-the-scenes" look at the coverage.
Since it was the final race of the year, the broadcast ended with a montage of various memorable moments from the 1987 season.
