The first NASCAR race broadcast would be on January 31, 1960. The first of the two Twin 100 Mile qualifying races for the Daytona 500 would be broadcast by CBS as part of a one-and-a-half hour program. Walter Cronkite opened the broadcast driving around the track in a Lotus.

Aside from the first of the two races, a woman's compact car race, Le Mans-style sport car race, and compact car race would be shown.
