- TBS started televising NASCAR races. Picked up this year were the Richmond 400 (Previously shown on ESPN), Atlanta Journal 500 (Previously shown on ESPN) and Winston Western 500 (Previously untelevised). All were shown live.
- The then-new TNN network also started showing races. The Marty Robbins 420 and Budweiser 500 were picked up. Both were previously untelevised.
- The Carolina 500, previously untelevised, was shown live on ESPN.
- The Mason-Dixon 500, previously untelevised, was shown on Mizlou.
- The Budweiser 400, previously untelevised, was shown on ESPN.
- The Miller High Life 500 was moved from NBC to Mizlou.
- The American 500, previously untelevised, was shown live on ESPN.
- The Busch Clash was moved from live to tape-delayed, though this was because of rain.
- The Winston 500 was moved from a live broadcast on ESPN to tape-delayed on NBC.
- The Southern 500, previously shown on ABC, was untelevised.
