1981 World 600

Network: CBS

Date and time: May 24, 1981, 2:00 PM

Format: Live

Length: 2 and a half hours (scheduled for 2 hours)

The last half of the race was broadcast live as part of CBS Sports Sunday. It was billed as the "Charlotte 600".

Before the coverage went on the air they gave a brief report on the race, as well as the wreck that injured Donnie Allison, around 1:30 PM. When the coverage began they first gave a recap of the event so far, followed by televising it to it's conclusion.

Due to 7 caution flags, the race went over the scheduled time, signing off at around 4:30 PM instead of the planned 4:00 PM. This pre-empted coverage of the PGA Memorial Golf Tournament, and thus there was no post-race coverage, CBS signing off about as soon as Bobby Allison took the checkered flag.
