1986 Nationwise 500

Network: WTBS

Date and time: October 19, 1986, 12:30 PM

Format: Live

Length: 4 and a half hours (scheduled for 4 hours)

The race was billed as the "Nationwise American 500". One feature of the broadcast was at the end, the broadcasters gave their picks for the "Champion Spark Plugs Driver of the Race"- namely, who they felt was the best driver that race.

The broadcast ran over it's alloted time as the race was very lengthy despite only 6 cautions, lasting 4 hours. This pre-empted the airing of the film Living Proof: The Hank Williams Jr. Story, which started at 5:00 PM instead of 4:30 PM.
