The race was scheduled to be shown on ABC's Wide World of Sports, joined live in progress at 4:30 PM, preceded by updates throughout the race including live coverage of the start at 1:30 PM. However, the race was rained out, and run a week later. ABC returned, showing 45 minutes of the race live on ABC's Wide World of Sports, alongside the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

The race made innovative use of in-car cameras, similar to CBS's Daytona 500 broadcast.
