Changes from previous year:

- The Mizlou TV network started televising races, on tape-delay. The World 600 (Previously shown live on CBS), Van Scoy Diamond Mines 500 (A new race to the calendar), and Mountain Dew 500 (Previously shown on NBC) were shown.

- The Twin 125s were moved from CBS to USA. They were scheduled to be on CBS but moved due to schedule conflicts.

- The Rebel 500 on ABC was moved from tape delay to live.

- The Richmond 400 was first televised, live on ESPN. ESPN also picked up the Northwestern Bank 400, Champion Spark Plugs 400, Wrangler Sanfor-Set 400, Holly Farms 400, American 500, and Atlanta Journal 500. All of these races were previously untelevised, and all were shown live. However, the Carolina 500, Virginia 500, and Mason-Dixon 500 weren't shown by ESPN, and were left untelevised.

- The Gabriel 400, previously untelevised, was shown live on CBS.

- The National 500 was moved from ABC to NBC.
