Unit 10 Urinary System
This unit is going to be cut really short to just the basics. Here's what you need to know:
Describe 4 major roles of the kidney/urinary system.
Describe the gross anatomy of the urinary system including the following structures: kidney, renal capsule, adrenal gland (actually an endocrine organ that secretes adrenaline), ureters, urinary bladder and ureters.
Explain the difference in urethras between males and female and why females are more likely to contract UTIs.
Describe the basic layout of the kidney - renal cortex and renal medulla - and the main event of each (filtering blood and collecting & concentrating urine).
Describe how urine moves from the kidneys to the bladder and then out the urethra.
Describe how the bladder knows it is full.
Describe how the body controls the release of urine from the body (micturition).
