Unit 10 Urinary System

This unit is going to be cut really short to just the basics. Here's what you need to know:

    • Describe 4 major roles of the kidney/urinary system.

    • Describe the gross anatomy of the urinary system including the following structures: kidney, renal capsule, adrenal gland (actually an endocrine organ that secretes adrenaline), ureters, urinary bladder and ureters.

    • Explain the difference in urethras between males and female and why females are more likely to contract UTIs.

    • Describe the basic layout of the kidney - renal cortex and renal medulla - and the main event of each (filtering blood and collecting & concentrating urine).

    • Describe how urine moves from the kidneys to the bladder and then out the urethra.

    • Describe how the bladder knows it is full.

    • Describe how the body controls the release of urine from the body (micturition).
