Unit 9 -Rates of Reaction & Le Chatelier

Learning Objectives for this unit:

    • Identify factors that influence the rate of a chemical reaction and describe how they affect the rate of reaction.

    • Describe/explain collision theory and how it relates to reaction rates.

    • Describe the difference between enthalpy and entropy in terms of units and # values. (delta H, delta S, positive, negative, etc.)

    • Identify an energy diagram for a chemical reaction as either endothermic or exothermic and describe the lines and points on the graph including energy of reactants, energy of products, activation energy, heat of reaction. reaction with a catalyst.

    • Calculate the rate of a chemical reaction using data and a graph (products formed over time) - know how to calculate the slope during the reaction (rise over run -so long as you set up x and y correctly).

    • Describe a system at equilibrium and some of its characteristics.

    • Describe how changing each of these variables affects (or does not affect) a system in equilibrium: (temperature, concentration, and pressure).

    • Describe energy transformations that occur during chemical reactions (be able to identify types of energy - chemical, thermal or kinetic, etc.)

    • Show changes to an equilibrium system in graph form.
