Course Description: Examination of the Civil War and Reconstruction period, with emphasis on causes, major events, social, and economic impact. Second quarter will examine the American West from the Louisiana Purchase to the end of the frontier.

Course Objectives:

1. develop critical thinking skills in relation to historical developments;

2. understand how present institutions and situations have developed from the past;

4. develop knowledge of the political, social, economic, cultural, and diplomatic developments that contributed to the development of the United States

5. develop the ability to express ideas, concepts and conclusions, verbally in a well organized argument

Grading: Your grade will consist of various projects designed around each topic. In addition students will read and discuss various readings and complete projects and maps. There will also be quizzes over each unit. The other component of your grade will be participation in class discussion.

Attendance and make-up policy: Attendance will be taken according to the Strafford handbook. If you miss a film you must watch it on your own and write a historical analysis in a 2-3-page report. All homework is due on the date assigned, if you miss school on the date an assignment is due you must make arrangements for it to be turned in. No late work will be accepted.

Requirements: Pass American history & world history with a 70% or higher. Grades- 11-12.
