Captain Martin Lloyd Sanders, Ph.D., isa Public Health Professional and an expert in biological safety, field medical operations, biosecurity, occupational safety and health, infectious disease epidemiology, environmental health services, and occupational health and wellness programs. He was an executive committee member and senior editor for the 5th edition of "Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories," receiving multiple awards for his efforts.

In the past, Captain Martin Lloyd Sanders was the Director for Occupational Preparedness and Emergency Response and the Director for Environmental Health Services. He also served as the Director (Acting) for the Office of Health and Safety under the Center for Disease Control (CDC). He was the Chief Scientist for the US Public Health Service from 2013 to 2017. During his term, he provided support to the Office of the Surgeon General in developing and implementing strategic health policies and in leading the USPHS Commissioned Corps in recruitment, readiness, retention, mentoring, and other policy areas.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he had many roles in the military, including chief biological threat assessment and chief intelligence officer for the 520th Theater Army Medical Laboratory. He received the prestigious Derek Dunn Memorial Scientist Officer of the Year award on April 2007 and three outstanding service medals and commendation medals as part of the USPHS Commissioned Corps. He also received two commendation medals, an achievement medal, and a National Defense Service ribbon from the U.S. Army.

Presently, Capt. Martin Lloyd Sanders is Director for Safety, Environmental Compliance and Emergency Management in Federal Occupational Health (FOH/PSC).
