Have you ever experienced being hours away from the deadline, working furiously to complete a task and silently blaming yourself for not starting it earlier? According to life coach Marc Accetta, procrastination is a nasty trap to fall into, and it can be quite difficult to overcome the self-destructive habit. One study shows that 95% of people procrastinate to some degree.

In this article, Marc Accetta discusses several tips on how to avoid procrastination.

Recognize when you are procrastinating. Procrastination is an active process wherein one decides to put off important tasks in favor of ones that might be more enjoyable, hold a lower priority, or are easier to accomplish.

Get organized. Procrastination is likely to happen if you do not create a plan on how to complete your assignments. Organizing and setting priorities for your tasks will give you a measurable framework for working within the timeframe you need. It helps to use a planner. Some prefer to invest in a planner, while others are more comfortable using a mobile app to organize their to-do lists or schedules.

Remove distractions. many distractions in the environment can stop you from getting tasks done. Make your environment more conducive for work by putting away your phone, logging out of social media, listening to white noise to drown out other noises and distractions, and avoiding sitting near the television.

Promise yourself a reward. Give yourself an incentive for finishing tasks ahead of the deadline. The rewards can include a cup of coffee, your favorite slice of cake, or watching an episode of your favorite show.
