During these uncertain times, everybody needs a little compassion. With many employees working from home for the past 8 to 10 months, some might feel their superiors have lost touch with them, especially those who forget to show a little concern. Empathizing allows a leader to acknowledge that employees are part of a mutual experience. Through shared experiences, a leader can show compassion by seeing situations through the lenses of employees. Understanding the perspective of those under one’s responsibility lets people know that a leader is compassionate and emphatic. Leaders who are willing to learn from their employees are the ones who are ripe for success. Integrity is an issue in every company, says Marc Accetta. Compassionate leaders uphold standards and ethics. Those who are able to practice integrity impart the same quality to those under their supervision and expect them to display the quality in their work and behavior. Leaders who show compassion believe with all their heart and mind that success is achieved when a team works together.
