Feeling overwhelmed? Here’s how to overcome it

According to a survey conducted by the American Psychological Association on more than 3,000 U.S. residents in 2020, 60 percent of them said they feel overwhelmed because of the many issues the nation is facing.

There are numerous reasons to be anxious. And life coach Marc Accetta keeps reminding people that stress does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, and social status. With possibly so many obligations at work or school, which can be compounded by personal and family needs and traumatic experiences and issues surrounding an individual, it is easy to feel a significant amount of overwhelming thoughts.

Below are some coping tips to overcome it.

Breath. Doing breathing exercises can help alleviate negative feelings and thoughts because they promote relaxation, improve the mood, and lower your stress response. Listening to a guided meditation can also help you feel more at ease.

Learn to say “no.” One of the reasons people feel overwhelmed is that there are too many responsibilities and too little time. Protect your personal time and space by setting healthy boundaries in your schedule, and especially workload. Some examples of this are leaving the office by a certain time and not accepting tasks you are not obligated to perform.

Get to the bottom of it. There’s always a reason for people getting overwhelmed. Once you have pinpointed what you are stressed about, you are one step closer to solving the problem.
