As the leaves turn a wonderful array of golden, red and orange colours as the weather turns from sweltering to freezing, we are pleased to announce that LIC Community Garden will be participating in the Queens Leaf Drop Off this year, which is being co-ordinated by Build It Green NYC.
Leaf Collection will be held at the garden every Sunday in November from 10am to 1pm (same time as the compost dropoff).
Here are the dates:
4 Nov, 11 Nov, 18 Nov, 25 Nov.
Please bring your leaves in either clear plastic or brown paper bags (brown paper bags preferred as we can compost those as well).
Please DON'T leave your leaves at the garden gate at any other time - scheduled drop off times only please.
There will be volunteers at the garden during the scheduled drop off times to answer questions and keep things running smoothly.
Details about other leaf drop off sites can be found on the Build it Green NYC website.
Please email licgardencompost@gmail.com if you would like more information about leaf drop off at LIC Community Garden, or would like to volunteer to help us out in November.
Dry leaves are an excellent source of carbon for the composting process, and the leaves will be used throughout the winter and spring in our compost bins.
