It all adds up

Every week (for most weeks of the year) we collect between 3 and 5 buckets of kitchen scraps to turn into compost.

Over the course of the year, this can really add up.

In the last year we have collected approximately 3o00 pounds (or 1 and a half short tons) of kitchen scraps, and turned it all into lovely compost for the gardens.

Although only a drop in the ocean of approximately 2700 tons of refuse collected in Queens every day (as per NYC Sanitation website), this is still 3000 pounds less going to landfill this year, which is around the weight of a compact car.
