If you missed the LIC Community Garden's 20th Anniversary last weekend then you missed a once-in-20-years event.
There was wonderful food donated by LIC local businesses: Erdam and Ulash the local fruit guys who can be regularly found outside of Dunkin Donuts, Dunkin Donuts, and french restaurant Tournesol. If you went, and did not try the quiche and pissaladiere then you should be kicking yourself right now.
Dennis, one of the garden's founding members regaled us with the story of how the garden began. Hopefully sometime soon Dennis and I will be able to transpose some of this information to the website.
There was even a live jazz trio playing, which drew in visitors from the surrounding streets as soon as they started to play. Sorry, I don't remember the full and correct name of the band, I have been trying to find out really. It would be great to be able to give them a plug and add a link to their website, so if you know it please leave a comment.
It was a great way to spend a warm and cheerful Saturday afternoon. Too bad 20th Anniversaries are not more frequent.
Our thanks must go to Mark Christie who organised the entire event, and to his helpers, like the wonderful Gloria.
