A home composting solution

With our compost bins all full and no sign of an end to the cold weather which will allow decomposition to start again, some of you may be interested in some 'at home' solutions for composting.

1. Outdoor Bin or Tumbler

It requires very little outdoor space to have your own backyard bin or tumbler. A bin such as the earth machine, sold by NYC Compost at the Queens Botanical Garden require about 1 square yard of space. Obviously very little will happen in your bin during these cold months, but you can start layering your scraps and your browns and when the weather does finally heat up, you will start to see decomposition taking place.

2. Indoor Worm Bin

If you don't have any outdoor space, an indoor worm farm may be a good option for you. Worms do need regular care and feeding like any other pet though.
