Hog Bay, November 14, 1865
An awfully sudden death occurred here to-day, Miss Jane Lashmar, of Creek Bay, having been found dead in bed. It appears from information received from one who was staying in the house that Miss Lashmar overnight appeared cheerful and in her usual health, and retired about 10 o'clock p.m., and this morning her brother John was alarmed by the children (with whom she slept) running up to the woolshed and informing him that sister was dead. He immediately ran to the house and proceeded to his sister's bedroom, and found the account too true. Evidently she had been dead several hours, she being then quite cold. In the absence of a Magistrate to hold an official enquiry. I have suggested that Mr. Carter, of the Willoughby Light, should view the body and certify to the fact.
