Tiger SIMPSON

A Memorial to the Great War 1914-1918

This stone cairn was built to commemorate the end of World War One and to honour the service and sacrifices made by Australian soldiers. It was built by Stamford "Tiger" Simpson, a man of Tasmanian aborignal ancestry and a well-loved local identity.

Stamford Wallace Simpson, No.687 enlisted in the 10th Australian Infantry Battalion, the Fighting Tenth, and served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front. Several Kangaroo Island men went away to the Great War, and Tiger Simpson was one of the few to return. This cairn is his dedication to his mates.

This sign was commissioned by the 10th Battalion AIF Association in 2008, marking the 90th anniversary of the end of World War One.
