Parndana East General Store

DAY'S GENERAL STORE - PARNDANA EAST

Near this site, Day's Store operated from 1950 to

1954 providing a very welcome service for the

Soldier Settlers then living in the nearby

Pardana East Work "Camp".

The owner/proprietor was Mrs Olive M.B. Day

and her son, Noel W. Day, managed the Store.

In the green three roomed, converted Army shed,

Noel sold groceries, confectionery and basic

essentials.

Mrs Day and/or Noel brought stocks from

Kingscote to Parndana twice weekly in a 1948

Chevrolet utility, over newly made ironstone

roads often impassable during winter.

The pioneer settlers greatly appreciated

the store, the first to be opened west of Kingscote.

Erected by the K. I. Pioneers Association

and unveiled on the 27 July, 2006.
