Roy Carter and Scotty Meyers

Mr Roy Carter and Mr. William "Scotty" Meyers

gave the land known as "Reeves Point" to the District

Council of Kingscote and the community of

Kangaroo Island.

In the 1930's Roy Carter delivered milk by

horseback to the growing town of Kingscote. He

also delivered mail to the sparse settlements of the

North Coast of Kangaroo Island. Mr Carter offered

the front 2 rooms of his house "Charity" to the

National Trust to accommodate the many historical

artifacts. Mrs Carter became the volunteer curator

of these items.

On July 27th 1969, Roy Carter, owner of Section 1

(the first lease in South Australia to be registered)

donated the land including Reeves Point to the

District Council of Kingscote.

Mr. William "Scotty" Myers bought allotments of section

1 & 2 of Reeves Point. He also donated this land on his death

in 1979 to the District Council.

Scotty Meyers was a carpenter and joiner and built a

"shark proof fence" made of wooden planking between

the fisherman's jetty and the wharf. He also played the

trumpet and owned a Ford T Ute. He was a very frugal

man and sold carpentry supplies.
