THE JOSEPH HENRY CARTER RESERVE
This area was the site of the
S.A.'s Company first settlement in
South Australia, 27 July 1836.
The land was donated to the District
on 27 July 1969 by R. J. Carter Esq.
a descendant of Jeremiah Calnan
who arrived in the new colony
in the barque "Africaine"
on 2 November 1836
On the 27th July, 1969, as owner of Section1, (the first lease in South Australia to be registered), Mr [Roy] Carter donated the land, including Reeves point to the District Council. This area is now developed as "Carter Reserve".
