Dorothea PIPKORN

PIPKORN

In memory of Dorothea Pipkorn (1815-1839) who arrived on the "Solway" at

Nepean Bay on October 16, 1837, with her husband, David.

Dorothea gave birth to their daughter, Maria Elisabeth, on March 23, 1839 but

tragically died a few months later and was buried in this cemetery.

David Pipkorn (1805-1878) was employed in farming by the

South Australian Company. He and Maria remained on Kangaroo Island for

twelve years before they moved to Victoria. They were living in Hochkirch

where Maria Elisabeth died, aged 15, on March 1, 1855.

Her burial was the first in the Hochkirch Lutheran Churchyard, which is now

known as the South Hamilton Lutheran Cemetery.

David remarried in 1856 and had another eight children. He was farming at

Rupanyup prior to his death at the age of 73 years, and was buried in the

Murtoa Cemetery, both places being in the Wimmera district.
