R.A.O.B. Hall

This building was built by VRS (Vic) Boothey using local stones that he carved by hand in 1928. The land was owned by Emily Uren and she transferred it to Otim Singh, Charles Bell, Charles Turner, Edgar Pledge, Herbert Bald and Victor Boothby in 1925. It is likely these men acted at trustees for the property. "Old Style" Dances were held every Monday to help with the cost of the building. The admittance free was one shilling, but in the 1930's there was an entertainment tax of three pennies which was 25%. In 1948 the property was vested in the RAOB (Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes). The photo shows the laying of the foundation stone. Photo frpom left to right, Cyril Parker, Bert Pledge, Charles Northcott, Perceval [Percival] May and Otim Singh.
