Sally Welcomed those present and introduced Sue Hodge FNDC Community Policy Manager who presented an overview of the possible design and plans for a 25 metre
8 lane indoor heated swimming pool including a 10metre by 10metre Learn to Swim pool Proposed site – End of Penney Crescent near Lindvart Park Recreation Centre .
Discussion centred round the possible pool cost of $4 - $5million, which is the most sensible and reasonable pool mooted in the Far North at the moment.
Council is calling for submissions seeking community feedback on the proposal to build a new indoor, heated swimming pool.
Council needs to know whether the community supports the proposal and how they believe these projects should be funded.
An example as follows - 33 1/3% x 3 =
33 1/3% - Target rate increase by $2 to maximum $53.00 over a 20 year period depending on how close your property is to the pool.
33 1/3% - Funding organisations e.g. Pub Charity, ASB Community Trust, Lottery Community Grants.
33 1/3% - Community fundraising.
Discussion then followed with the present day usage of the Northland College Pool.
This will be operated by FNDC Contract with the pool being open from late October 2015 until March 2015. FNDC have yet to agree upon the Contractor.
Those present were urged to make a submission to the Long Term Plan FNDC by 30 September 2014 supporting the Kaikohe Indoor Heated Swimming Pool Proposal.
Submissions may be emailed to : submissions@fndc.govt.nz
Suggestion that a positive submission be prepared and signatures added to the proposal.
The date of the next meeting of Kaikohe Heated Pool Supporters will be in approximately 6 weeks time but you will be notified.
