2. Sally Macauley:
Skate Park Project Update
Plan’s tabled. Funding applications ready to go. Good consultation with the youth. Approximately $140,000 budget. Expert advisors from the skating community. Project also signalled in the FNDC LTP.
Tabled a concept design for the former Kaikohe Hotel site (noted) Acknowledged the matter is under discussion with the Runanga, FNDC and ĀKAU.
3. Report from Town Centre Development Group (Karen Remetis)
Presented the issues around sign clutter, road painting etc. Handout available. It covers Kaikohe and Kawakawa with examples of good stuff and not plus guidelines for business. KBA to provide a link to the document. 4. Greg Wilson (FNDC) spoke about the District Plan Provisions in relation to changes in parking, signage guidelines. Some changes may be ease the need for Resource Consent for new businesses triggered by parking.

4. Councillors’ Report: John Vujcich
Steve raised the issue (again) of rerouting the cycle trail through the town
Motorhome Friendly Town.
Resolved: “THAT THE COUNCILLORS’ VUJCICH AND MACAULEY BRING A REPORT TO THE ASSOCIATION ON THE MATTER OF REROUTING THE CYCLE TRAIL UP THE MAINSTREET AND THE MOTORHOME FRIENDLY TOWN.”

5. ĀKAU Presentation: (Click this link for report)
Gave a brief of who ĀKAU is. Outlined some of the projects involved in at present. Then moved onto Grow Kaikohe collaboration. Ties in with the Northland Economic Growth Strategy. 3 community workshops. Saw a need to reinvigorate the vitality and image of Kaikohe as a place to live and work. The proposal is to come up with a “Taonga Trail.” Potentially a physical trail and a digitable trail like an app. Have begun to identify taonga. What are the businesses and initiaves that could be birthed out of the taoanga? An umbrella idea that could pull other ideas together.

Next step is to put it in of the public space for greater consultation and input. Need to now find people who will put their hand up and get involved in the projects to make them happen.
6. Other Items and reports
Jack Poutsma spoke about the connection with Ngapuhi in relation to branding. Night market, pop up shops…ĀKAU may be able to give landlords ideas about how their shops could look like.
