Feedback on Professional Development

Last night Megan and Isabel (CIS), Suzanne (TTS), Jocelyn (OFS) and I attended a pre-AFCC (Asian Festival of Children’s Content) panel discussion on “Building a Nation of Readers via Web 2.0″. The panel consisted of three bloggers who blog on children's books, Tarie from Asia in the Heart, World on the Mind; Myra from GatheringBooks, Corinne from Paper Tigers.

After the session I said to Megan that I felt like rushing home and blogging about it. I was so inspired by these energetic ladies who were so enthusiastic and spend so much time blogging about a subject so dear to many of our hearts. So...this afternoon I am sitting down to start this blog......but, they beat me to it!!!

In the true spirit of blogging (so they told us in their session) I will point you to their posts about the session on their blogs and only add what is necessary.

Myra is based at NIE in Singapore. Her blog Gathering Books has book reviews, author / illustrator interviews, extensive teaching notes and much, much more. She would be a great speaker for HOL if we could convince her to come along.

Tarie's blog (one of them, they all seem to have more than one) is about Asian Children's literature. It is so relevant to us, please take time to explore it.

Corrine is one of the bloggers at Paper Tigers, another site that focuses on children's books from the region.

All three bloggers are passionate about promoting children's literature through blogging and to providing disadvantaged children with access to books, something that they each do by using their blogs to publicise the causes they are involved with.

to be continued......
