Late May: possible visiting authors to AFCC -- & an ARC from Holly Thompson

Post date: Feb 07, 2011 5:55:52 AM

Thanks to the AFCC (Asian Festival of Children's Content) here in Singapore in late May (see the Professional Development post on it), quite a few overseas authors and illsutrators will be in town -- and possibly available for school visits.

Anushka Ravishankar, Christopher Cheng, Holly Thompson, and Yangsook Choi are confirmed. We also believe Rhuksana Khan will be attending.

NOTE: Holly Thompson has sent an Advance Reader's Copy (ARC) of her latest book, Orchards, to our network to pass around and read. I highly recommend it for middle school and up. Please let me know if you want to borrow it -- I'll be bringing it to the next network meeting.

Review from her website:

Orchards

How do you know if you’re responsible? After a bullied classmate commits suicide, Kana Goldberg is sent to her family’s home in Japan for the summer. Kana wasn’t the bully, not exactly, but she didn’t do anything to stop what happened, either. As Kana begins to process the pain and guilt she feels, news from home sends her world spinning out of orbit all over again. Delacorte/Random House, February 2011. “A fast-paced page-turner that explores the rippling effects of suicide.” –Kirkus Reviews
