Subject: Author visit proposal

My name is Ching Yeung Russell. I am the author of Tofu Quilt, which has been nominated for the 2011 Red Dot Children's Choice Award in Singapore. Tofu Quilt has also received the following awards: ALA Notable Book; IRA Notable Books for a Global Society; Notable Books in the Language Arts from NCTE; Best Children's Books of the Year, outstanding merit from Bank Street College of Education, Honor Book Award for the Youth Literature by Asian Pacific American Association, and others.

My earlier series of award-winning middle-grade chapter books based on my childhood in China: First Apple, Water Ghost, Lichee Tree, Child Bride and a picture book, Moon Festival, were also well-received. Lani Gerson, a Media Specialist in the United States, wrote an article about my books, "Modern China in Fiction," which was published in Book Links in May of 2000.

I have visited schools, libraries, and literary clubs, and have given presentations at conventions. In recent years, I visited international schools in Singapore; Thailand; Hong Kong, Israel, Belgium and Paris.

I am now booking for school visits for the 2011 and 2012 school years in Asia. I am asking US$ 850 for four sessions a day, room and board and travel expenses. (The travel expenses can be shared with other schools in Asia who book me on successive days.) I am sending proposals to other international schools in Singapore. If you are interested, please contact me by e-mail. For more information, please look at my website.

Sincerely,

Ching Y. Russell
