Dallas, TX
Dallas began in 1841 when John Neely Bryan established a settlement on the east bank of the Trinity River, near a natural ford and important trails through North Texas. The town grew rapidly after the arrival of the railroads in the 1870s, transforming Dallas into a major transportation and commercial crossroads. Cotton became a principal cash crop, while livestock, hides, and regional agriculture helped establish Dallas as a trading and distribution center for North Texas and the Southwest.
During the 20th century, Dallas evolved from a railroad and cotton town into one of the nation’s major business and cultural centers. The city hosted the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936, expanded dramatically during the postwar era, and became known for its aviation, energy, telecommunications, finance, and technology industries. Today, Dallas is the heart of a sprawling North Texas metropolis, combining its frontier and cattle-country roots with a decidedly modern Texas swagger. And, appropriately for the FYMA Cup, it remains a place where big money, big steaks, big hats, and big opinions about golf all seem to fit right in. Dallas is situated in the Central Time Zone.
Weather
Dallas experiences a humid subtropical climate, characterized by mild winters, warm springs and autumns, and long, hot summers. The typical annual temperature ranges from approximately 39°F to 96°F, with October bringing a welcome break from the Texas heat. For mid-October, average daytime highs are generally around 78°F, while nighttime temperatures typically fall to about 58°F, making for excellent golfing conditions and comfortable evenings. October is also one of the drier months of the year, with roughly 4 inches of precipitation on average. In short, the forecast calls for ideal Cup weather: bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a 1/4 zip for the morning—and short pants and scallys are optional.
The Logistics
The FYMA house (4800 Lusk Ln, Flower Mound) is located approximately 20 minutes from DFW, making the journey from airport to beer, golf, and questionable decisions relatively painless. TD and AssTD will touch down simultaneously at 1:43 PM CST, arriving from different corners of the country and, presumably, carrying far more luggage than necessary. After collecting bags and securing the rental van, we’re targeting a 2:30–3:00 PM departure from DFW. If you’d like to secure a seat in the van, plan to arrive before then—or prepare to explain to the group why you’re taking an Uber. The 20 min drive from DFW to the house also makes Uber a perfectly viable Plan B.

If you find yourself in Dallas before the rest of the crew, fear not: there are worse places to kill a little time than an airport watering hole or one of the many attractions around Big D. House check-in begins after 3:00 PM, at which point the official FYMA Cup experience can commence. Until then, pace yourself. Or don’t. We all know how that usually goes.

Why go: Craft beer, burgers, sports, and a relaxed neighborhood atmosphere. Ideal for a Cupper who wants to get out of the house without actually going too far from the house.

Why go: Food, drinks, sports, and a lakeside setting. A solid place to decompress, talk golf, and confidently rewrite the history of your last round.
Verf's Grill & Tavern — Flower Mound — ~5 miles | 10–12 min
Why go: Good local food, plenty of beer, and a proper neighborhood tavern vibe. Also conveniently close when someone realizes they are hungry approximately 11 minutes after dinner.
Arcade 92 Retro Arcade — Flower Mound — ~7 miles | 12–15 min
Why go: 100+ arcade games and a chance to prove that decades of accumulated wisdom have not diminished your Pac-Man, Galaga, or Mortal Kombat skills.
Lakes Lanes Bowling — The Colony — ~9 miles | 15–20 min
Why go: Bowling, billiards, darts, karaoke, food, and a full bar. When golf has humbled you, this is your opportunity to find another sport at which you can embarrass yourself.
The Puttery — The Colony — ~15 miles | 20–25 min
Why go: High-tech indoor mini-golf, food, and drinks. Because apparently four rounds of real golf aren't enough and somebody needs another opportunity to talk trash over a three-foot putt.

Why go: Hit golf balls, compete, eat, drink, and enjoy climate-controlled golf without having to walk 18 holes. Also provides a convenient excuse to claim your swing was “just warming up” all week.
The Truck Yard — The Colony — ~15 miles | 20–25 min
Why go: Texas-style outdoor drinking, food trucks, live music, and yard games. This is where the Cuppers go when they want to embrace the Texas experience without actually having to buy a pair of boots.
Cotton Bowl / Fair Park — Dallas — ~27 miles | 35–45 min
Why go: College football history, the legendary Cotton Bowl, and the heart of Fair Park. For the Cupper who wants a taste of Big D sports culture and a reminder that football rivalries can be every bit as irrational as golf wagers. The Cotton Bowl was built in 1930 and has long been associated with major college football, most famously the Texas–Oklahoma rivalry happening on Saturday.

Why go: Texas-style steaks and Southern flavors with a local flair. Because after a long day of golf, nothing says “I earned this” like a large steak and an even larger opinion about how you played.

Why go: Fresh Tex-Mex and Mexican cuisine, bold flavors, and patio seating. An easy nearby option for margaritas, tacos, and convincing yourself that tomorrow's round will be different.
Bonus - WinStar World Casino and Resort - Thackerville, OK — ~55–60 miles | ~55–65 min
Why go: Texas maintains some of the strictest anti-gambling laws in the US, prohibiting commercial casinos and online sports betting. There is hope, though. Located in Thackerville, OK, the WinStar is the largest casino in the world. Owned by the Chickasaw Nation and just across the TX-OK border, this massive casino offers gaming, restaurants, entertainment, and plenty of ways to turn a perfectly good Saturday night into a story that starts with, “You’re not going to believe what happened…”
