Mesquite '15 - Wrap up

Day 1: Falcon Ridge Hole #1

Now that FYMA Cup '15 is in the books; I thought I would capture some of the highlights of our trip while they are still fresh.

There was one change to our itinerary for Day 3 of the tournament when we added The Ledges Golf Club in St. George, Utah and dropped the Palmer Course at The Oasis Golf Club. More on that later...

Day One - Arrival: A more well coordinated pickup could not have occurred even if Chop would have taken the Grand Central to the Van Wyck (ref: Perfect Pick-up). Arriving at the optimal 17 minutes after our first arrival and exactly 23 laps around the Terminals 1 & 3 later, 7 of 9 Cuppers were loaded like cordwood in the FYMA Wagon. A quick run to the Hard Rock for a few social games of Pai Gow, then back to the airport to provide job security for the drop-off lane attendant (and get Kinger), we were finally on the road to Mesquite. A quick stop for some gas station BBQ, then to the house; excitement was in the air: Poker, Maker's, Man soup and of course our annual debate on handicaps.

Day Two - Falcon Ridge: I love the mid-morning tee times...I say again, I love the mid morning tee times. A quick accountability check, a breakfast sammy and probably the shortest drive to the course in tournament history, FYMA Cup 2015 was underway. We started with 8, Rivs was scheduled to arrived later this evening. After a quick team photo, Group 1 teed off and The Cup was underway...

After the round, it was a quick turn back at the house, then Chop and Clarkie were off to Vegas to pick up Rivs, but not before dropping off the other 6 jackals at the Casa Blanca Casino. A bad run at the craps table, success at Pai Gow and 3 hours of Elvis impersonation later, the guys returned with Rivs and FYMA Cup was at its full compliment of 9. Can I get a coozie, anyone?

Day 3 - Conestoga: Another beautiful course laid out in the southwest Nevada desert was the site for our second round. Sailor J and LBYs set the tone for a relaxing but competitive round of golf, then it was back to the house for the parade of beef followed by some career counselling while enjoying scotch & stogies on the deck.

Day 4 - The Ledges: The Cup took a detour to Utah for its third round. After a major

tee time error at the The Palmer course, Cuppers were left wondering if round 3 was going to be spent poolside or at the casino. But like a super hero from the Clubhouse of Justice, our beloved TD stepped in to ensure the integrity of the tournament and should be commended for his quick and diligent action to get us consecutive tee times at a local golf course that met FYMA Cup Standards. The trip to The Ledges provided us with some bonding time and breathtaking views. It was moving day at The Ledges and the tournament field tightened up in preparation for a final run at the Cup.

Final Day - Wolf Creek: They say that the best should be saved for last and that was surely on our TD's mind when he scheduled Wolf Creek as our close out round.

Elevation changes, fast greens, risk/reward shots and unique vistas made this one of FYMA Cup's most memorable courses. Throw in the perfect amount of Sailor J and great friends and this round became one my all time favorites regardless of the situation.

It took aggressiveness, consistency, and a hell of alot of luck to post low numbers on this very difficult course. That is what this year's winners did capture this year's Cup! Congratulations to our champions!
