The FYMA Cup is an annual gathering of college friends who, despite geography, careers, families, and the general passage of time, still manage to find an excuse to get together once a year.
That excuse is golf.
Technically.
FYMA — Fine Young Men of America — has grown into an annual tradition built around great destinations, exceptional golf courses, mediocre competition, old stories, new stories, great food, and the occasional reminder that none of us are as good at golf as we think we are.
The FYMA Cup is not your typical golf tournament.
For starters, nobody is entirely sure when the banter officially begins. Some say the airport. Others say it starts in the group text months before the first tee shot.
Trash is talked.
Drinks are poured.
Tobacco is burned.
Old stories improve.
New stories are created.
And somewhere in between, golf is played.
The dates and destinations may change.
The handicaps, however, remain a subject of ongoing investigation.
But the mission remains the same:
Get together. Play golf. Vice out. Laugh harder.
Make no mistake—everyone wants to win the FYMA Cup.
But this has never really been about the final score.
It's about the banter in the van on the way to the course.
The first-tee jitters from people who have played golf for decades.
The delicate art of buzz management during the round.
The spectacular collapse of those who fail to master it.
The rare legendary shot.
The catastrophic decision that immediately follows.
The final-round crash-outs.
And the inside jokes that make absolutely no sense to anyone outside the group.
Every year adds another chapter to the FYMA story.
New courses.
New champions.
New excuses.
Somehow, the scorecards disappear, the details get fuzzy, and nobody can quite remember who actually won that match five years ago.
But everyone remembers the story.
That's the point.
We aren't just collecting golf courses.
We're collecting stories.
And with enough time, those stories only get better.
The FYMA Cup is built on a few simple principles:
~ Friendship over formality ~
~ Competition without actual hostility... usually ~
~ Trash talk must be earned—or completely fabricated ~
~ No good story should be ruined by the facts ~
~ Great golf in unforgettable places ~
~ Great food is as important as a great golf course ~
~ Everybody gets older. Nobody has to act like it ~
~ What happens on the trip eventually becomes part of FYMA lore ~
The name is obviously debatable.
The connections are not.
FYMA represents a group of friends who understand that life gets busy, calendars fill up, and opportunities to get everyone together become increasingly rare.
So we make the time.
Once a year, we pick a destination, pack the clubs, reconnect, tell the same stories, create a few new ones, and compete for a trophy that will almost certainly be discussed more than it deserves.
Because someday, the scorecards won't matter.
The handicaps won't matter.
Nobody will remember the exact number on the eighteenth hole.
But we'll remember the trips.
We'll remember the laughs.
We'll remember the shots that were supposedly hit.
And we'll remember the Fine Young Men of America who were there.
Questionable decisions. Good golf. Great friends. Legendary stories.
See you on the first tee.
