Rivs wins by 22! Crowned King of Vegas, How Great Thou Art!
With the return to a full field in 2022, this year’s cup was All Shook Up. But, it was Now or Never for Rivs as he went wire to wire in the desert. That spelled Heartbreak Hotel, leaving the rest of us Crying at the Chapel. A Little Less Conversation was had as for the first time since its inception, the FYMA Cup was shortened to three rounds, a true American Trilogy, due to weather and high winds. The Double Deuce was no less challenging than previous years, given the lure of the strip and local games of chance keeping cuppers out to the wee hours of the morn. Fortunately, no one ended up In the Ghetto or confined to Jailhouse Rock.
Our runner-up this year was Clarkie, who, fueled by Hound Dogs at the turn, bested the rest of the field. He sits as one of the favorites for FYMA ’23, as long as his back can hold out. Chaser came in third, 4 strokes back.
OK, enough Elvis references. Here's your FYMA '22 recap!
That means an early arrival for the New England bunch. Muddy and Begs enjoy a night on the tables at the Trop, before breakfast at the Hard Rock.
The sign says it all!
Chaser is the next Cupper to arrive with TD soon after. Now the group has wheels. Whitey climbs aboard, and it's off to the Castle.

With respectable rounds all week, our '21 champ just couldn't make up the Champion's adjustment. Kinger did manage several low rounds and thus drove his handicap down too.
The first day concluded with Rivs shooting his best score on the FYMA tour by more than 12 strokes. This netted him an incredible 58, a FYMA cup net record. Not the longest driver on tour, but maybe the straightest. Consistency off the tee aided Rivs to this day's success. As you might expect, his performance had him sitting strong in the clubhouse after day 1.
Clarkie proved up to the challenge posting a very good score (65) that would have him leading in any other year. Chaser, Chop, and Fratt were still in it. The rest of us were praying for rain.
For the first time in FYMA history, a round had to be canceled. With 50+ Mph winds and wind chills in the low 30s, the TD made the call to cancel our second round scheduled for Reflections Bay.
A good call, although there was a small contingent that took advantage of clearing weather in the afternoon and hit the local muni to stay proficient.
Some hit the strip!
With the weather still marginal, the TD and AssTD made the decision to press on into round 3. It was back to NW Vegas and Paiute Golf Club. Sun Mountain awaited the field and proved to be a tough competitor. Winds blowing at 30mph and temps barely above 60 in the sun, low shots into the wind were a must. Rivs rose to the challenge while the rest struggled to keep pace. Our leader almost matched his first-round performance, netting a 62.
Clarkey minimized the gap by posting a net 68 to remain in second place, while Chaser, this time with shoes, slipped a little further back by posting a net 71. Rivs finished Day 3 with a commanding 13-stroke lead.

Taking advantage of the location, Cuppers were treated to a night at Mobile Arena to catch the Vegas Golden Knight play the Buffalo Sabres. What could have been Jack Eichel playing against his former team was not. He was injured and out for the game. No matter, Clarkie planned a fantastic outing complete with a VIP visit to the penalty box during the pregame. #hyped!

The Revere was the site for round 4 and it surpassed the hype. The Revere lent itself to many impressive and notable rounds on this day: TD worked harder than Alberto Tomba in '88, posting his second lowest score ever, a 61; AssTD and Chaser were close behind with 64s; Chop with a 65; with hopes of staying close coupled with a Rivs' prejacking, Clarkie posted a 68 along with G and Whitey (Whitey's lowest FYMA Cup round ever). It was up to Johnny Aloha to answer the FYMA Cup bell.
Rivs could have been poised for a relaxing round of low-risk golf, but not so fast my friends. He has the heart of a champion! Not satisfied with coasting to victory, Johnny Aloha stepped into the Number 1 Tee box at Revere and punched the minuteman in the mouth. By the time it was over, he had posted the second-best round of his FYMA Cup career (one shot back of Round 1), netting a 59.
Rivs net -37 may go down as one of the best FYMA sets ever. His performance won him a second FYMA Championship and the coveted Anchored Jacket. Congratulations Rivs!
Another great week!
