In a nearly wire-to-wire performance, Rivs dominates FYMA 25 with a 7-stroke victory over your TD. Clarkie and PK round out your top 4.
Under a stunning blue Florida sky, FYMA 25 kicked off at the Lake Buena Vista course at Walt Disney World’s golf complex. Your last Orlando Champ, G, used his familiarity and confidence from his 2023 performance at the same course. PK, always a solid player, especially before the transfusions, kept the competition going. Our eventual champ was lurking just one stroke behind the leading pair. Clarkey, Speen, and our TD all had great scores, making it a very competitive first round.
Round Two took our Cuppers to a new course, El Campèon, in the heart of Florida’s hill country. It was a tough challenge for our players, with no one scoring under par. But every champion has their moment, and El Campèon was Riv’s FYMA 2025 moment. While the field was slipping away, Rivs stayed steady, posting a net 74, low for the day and even for the tournament. PK added nine strokes from his round one performance and slipped to +3 overall, but he’s still within reach of our leader. Chop played the part of ‘Steady Eddie’, following up his round one net 76 with a round two 76. This worked to his advantage, putting him in third just 7 strokes back. AssTD put up a solid net 77, moving him from last in round one to the middle of the leaderboard after two.
Round 3 lived up to its name, and your TD was on the move back at our neighborhood’s Nicklaus course. TD scored a FYMA 25 low gross (81) and net score (64) so far to get into the thick of this championship. His excellent play put him in second place, just 3 shots back of our leader, Rivs. Speaking of Rivs, he was a model of consistency, posting a 71, making him the only Cupper under net par after 3 rounds. Uncle G (69) and Kinger (71) were the other big movers on the day. After three rounds, your top three positions are: 1. Rivs, 2. TD, Clarkie, PK, and G all tied for 3rd.
Our championship round showed that everyone was in their element. Ten out of twelve Cuppers scored under par at Disney’s iconic Magnolia course. This could’ve made for a thrilling finish, but Rivs wasn’t having any of it. He posted his own tournament gross (101) and net (66) bests, making it almost impossible to catch him. PK matched Rivs with a net 66, while Clarkey posted a net 64. Our best round of the championship was Speen’s, a net 62, which propelled him into a top 6 finish. TD was second going into the final day and held steady with a net 70. G, Kinger, Arch, Muddy, and Chop all had great rounds that moved them up the leaderboard, but it was Rivs’ day. Rivs’ name would forever be etched in the FYMA cup for the third time (’19, ’22, ’25) during an evening celebration at the FYMA house.
