It took the last play in overtime of the last game of the FFB season to decide the 2015 FYMA Bowl champion.
The Academites were nursing a 1 point lead late in the 4th quarter and only needed for the game to end, but a missed FG by the Denver placekicker as time ran out perpetuated the scoring in this contest and eventually lifted the Dirty Cops to FYMA Bowl glory.
Into the extra period, the Dirty Cops had 2 players (Denver's D and Demaryius Thomas) while the favored Academites had only one (Emanuel Sanders). Clinging to the one point advantage and with Denver driving, Sanders goes down with a lower body injury. But Thomas was also held off the score sheet as Denver settled for a FG to take a three point lead.
A few years ago the game would have been over, but since the rule change requiring the receiving team to score a touchdown on the opening drive to win the game, Cincinnati now had there chance to score for the win. On their second play of the drive in the overtime period, QB AJ McCarron missed the shotgun exchange from the center and the ball bounced randomly on the Denver turf. Denver D was quick to the errant pigskin and sealed the deal for the Broncos and delivered the FFB season's most crucial two points via the fumble recovery, lifting the Dirty Cops over the Academites 78-77.
Congratulations to the San Bruno Dirty Cops on its first FYMA Bowl Championship.
