Breeding

The Dhe’nar, as a race, reproduce very slowly. A combination of the effects of 5000 years living in Rhoska-Tor and the fact that the Dhe'nar bloodlines have been controlled by the Temple Caste for so long make it difficult for Dhe’nar pairings to produce living offspring.

For two Dhe'nar to produce a child, special rituals must be performed. Somehow, the powerfully magical nature of the Dhe’nar has changed both the male and female Dhe’nar to such an extent that it is virtually impossible to achieve conception without the specialized magic and ritual.

The Temple Caste has spent many years researching this phenomenon. Only after extensive magical rituals can conception be achieved. While at first, this concerned the Dhe’nar and attempts were made to reverse the situation, the Temple finally decreed that it was a gift, as it allows them to better control the bloodlines among the Dhe’nar.

A priestess may choose any man to mate with, with or without his consent, and his family will do nothing to intervene. It is considered a high honor for a man to be so chosen, and those that survive the experience are often allowed to sire children. It is rumored that this is one of the many tests the Dhe'nar priestess' put their people through to determine if they are powerful enough to pass on those strengths to the people as a whole.

The Dhe'nar priestesses seem to have total control over the bloodlines of the people. Any Dhe'nar female who is pregnant spends at least two weeks in the temple. No Dhe'nar child is born without the blessings of the Temple Caste.
