Marriage & Breeding

Marriage among the Kin is an interesting situation. Love is not an unfamiliar to the Khanshael. Considering their deep, fiery passion, it is no surprise that a dark dwarf occasionally falls deeply in love with another. Marriage is often, but not always, the result. Of course, these marriages are not always monogamous. As a long-lived race, dark dwarves do not subscribe to conventions such as monogamy.

Breeding is not always dependent on marriage. Although not nearly as strict about breeding as the Dhe'nar, the Khanshael still care deeply that their offspring are viable and have the utmost potential possible. Thus, it is not entirely possible for one, or both, of the Khanshael in a marriage to be asked to breed with dark dwarves of other castes, or even from other settlements. The ability to breed, and to be asked by the elders of a clan to do so, is an honor that none of the Kin would refuse.

Breeding is regulated among the Khanshael by a group of the Spirit Borne who work closely with the Dhe'nari Temple Caste and the clan elders.

Some Khanshael do not feel so strongly as to desire marriage often simply cohabit with another of the Kin. They often breed. In some cases, they move after a time, living either singly, or with another dark dwarf.

It is important to note that any conventional conceptualization or racial prejudice towards monogamy does not apply to the Khanshael. They are completely loyal to their clan, and the Khanshael as a whole. If asked or ordered to breed, a dark dwarf will comply, without question.
